Over-the-counter anti-anxiety medicines
- OTC antihistamines Chlorpheniramine (Chlor-Trimeton) and diphenhydramine (Benadryl) have hypnotic, sedative, and mild
anxiolytic properties.
- Picamilon, a nootropic dietary supplement, combines gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) and nicotinic acid (niacin, Vitamin B3). In animals studies Picamilon has been shown to improve cerebral circulation, and also work as tranquilizer with a stimulating component.
- Melatonin has anxiolytic properties, likely mediated by the benzodiazepine/GABAergic system.
- Herbal preparations: valerian, kava, chamomile.
